Bob Beemer Bobby Destepello is stuck in Grosse Pointe, MI. He was a second-level big-shot in high school, probably one of the defensive linemen on the football team. He was smart enough to get through school, but he always needed his team to define his successes. After a spectacularly unspectacular college career, he returned to Grosse Pointe with the promise of big money and lots of status -- selling BMWs at his father's dealership.Now, ten years later, he's stuck. He's still selling BMWs, but he has discovered that he's not smart enough, slick enough, or lucky enough to prove himself capable of running the dealership. He doesn't have a team to help him define his successes. He hasn't got a steady girlfriend, he parties too much on the weekends, and he's beginning to understand that everything he thought was important just doesn't mean that much.Bob's biggest problem is that he's just smart enough to realize that he's stuck in Grosse Pointe, but he's not smart enough to figure a way out. When he confronts Martin in the hallway, he's angry -- not at Martin, but at himself, and the only thing he can do when he's angry is lash out at people. Luckily for Bob, Martin doesn't want to fight. Martin asks Bob who he is angry at, and Bob realizes that Martin isn't the problem -- Bob Destepello is the problem.Bob retreats and shares his words, a bumbling poem about his feelings. Martin acknowledges Bob's attempt to communicate, and Bob ends up learning that someone can care about him.
